Half Day Meditation @ Hsi Fang Temple

This program focuses on the cultivation of meditative concentration and full awareness in daily activities.  Following the Buddha’s teachings on the Four Foundation of Mindfulness, there will be teachings about our mental afflictions and how they form, the various types of meditation, and how to practice them. This program includes guided sitting meditation and walking meditation. Many thanks to our patrons for supporting our educational programs, these meditation courses are free to everyone!

Experience level: 

This program is appropriate for both newcomers as well as experienced practitioners.

Guiding Teachers:

Venerable Miaozang, fully ordained Buddhist nun of Fo Guang Shan, who has been practicing for almost 20 years. Her practices mainly focusing on the daily application of the Buddha’s Teachings on clear awareness, meditative concentration, and the dependent origination in daily life. The venerable is currently the superintendent of Hsi Fang Temple and the president of San Diego Buddhist Association.
Ms. Angélica Barrera-Ng completed a three-year master degree program in Buddhist Chaplaincy at the University of the West, in California.  She has a professional background in public health—graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Health Science from CalState Fullerton in 2009. Currently, she is a volunteer in Hsi Fang Temple in San Diego, California. She lives with spouse, and their two dogs named Fufi and Robbie.

You have the options to join us for one session, partial sessions or the whole sessions.

Morning mindfulness practice:

Term: Every Saturdays, 9/23 – 12/9
Time: 2:00-3:00pm
Venue:
All meditation courses will be held at Hsi Fang Temple, located at 4536 Park Blvd. San Diego CA 92116.
Attire:
All participants will need to wear the temple’s polo and loose and comfortable long pants every time you come for the meditation classes.
*Temple’s polo is $20 (for one-time only). You may include it in the donation. If you already have it, wear it when you come.

TBIF: Supporting students experiencing homelessness @ Hsi Fang Temple and Online

“Thanks Buddha It’s Friday” program will be on August 25th, 6:30-8:30pm (Pacific Time). The program includes a short silence meditation, light vegetarian meal, and followed by a special lecture on ” Supporting Students Experiencing Homelessness” by Ms. Linda Lee Garibay. She will be discussing data on youth homelessness, impacts to education, and how people can help.

Biography of Ms. Garibay
Linda Lee Garibay is a Project Specialist that works for the Homeless Education Services Department at the San Diego County Office of Education. The Homeless Education Services department provides technical assistance and professional development to local educational agencies (LEAs) in San Diego to all 42 school districts, and other partners to ensure educational access and success for children and youth experiencing homelessness. Linda has received her Masters in Youth Development and has been working with young people for 11 years. Linda’s main focus is on community and shelter outreach and runs Project REST, an emergency hotel stay program for students experiencing homelessness and their families.
This program is hybrid mode.
 
In-person: Starts at 6:30pm with meditation and light dinner before the lecture.

Online: Join us at 7:15pm via Zoom meeting for the lecture at 7:30pm (Pacific Time)

A 5-week yoga session with Athena. It is a 60 minutes comfortable full-body stretch and strengthening class, where we will incorporate breath to movement. The gentle flow will allow you to connect with your breath, let go of any tension in your body, and honestly calm your mind.
